The Houses I Haunt

Like a ghost I enter these houses without invitation, but I come with the encroaching forest, the animals who seek shelter there, the wind that pulls the curtains to pieces and the weather that strips the wallpaper and collapses the ceilings. This series features the interiors of several houses I have chronicled over the last few years, watching their stories go on silently as they fade into the woods or fields that surround them, becoming ghosts themselves. Untold stories, memories, pain and happiness stain the walls as much as rainwater and snowmelt does, these houses are unanswerable questions; monuments to endings that I may never learn.

These images are transferred onto boards with DASS art transfer film and then attached to a basswood cradled board I have treated to look like the wall of the house in the photograph. The exception is The Sound of an Empty Room, which I have transferred onto clear plastic film and cut into strips.
