Vestiges

A Vestige is described as a trace, evidence of something that once was, a mark left or a sign of something past. These pieces are just that; moments that have gone by, possessions dropped by the wayside and forgotten, paired together with images that tell a story.

Each vestige is evidence of a connection made. The eyes or posture of a long-gone person made we want to know more, to take them with me and fashion a tale for them.

Landscapes have called to me, begged me to capture their quiet poetry and dignity. The intrigue of a shape, a tool, or some other object of interest helped me continue the narrative, lending their charm and filling in details of the story I am telling.

Images are first uploaded into Photoshop, cleaned up and resized for the intended surface. They are then printed onto mylar carrier sheets, then transferred onto rice paper using a 91% alcohol preparation. The rice paper is then adhered to the waiting object, which has been prepared with modeling paste that has been sanded to a smooth finish. After adhering, the image is sanded, varnished, touched up with ink, and waxed with furniture polish for a soft, suede-like finish.

At this time, individual Vestiges may be purchased in person from me at the events I will be participating in this year.

Custom Vestiges can be created upon request.
