Tied to the Land

A series in progress featuring digitally manipulated combinations of my own abstract paintings and photographs of the land that surrounds me. This series represents how no matter where I go or what I do, the land I see, that has raised me and made me who I am occupies my mind, bleeds into my work, is a part of me always. The poetry of the trees, wind, corn, sky, and roads continue to speak to me and inspire me with their simple, quiet force.

These images were created by digitally combining my own abstract paintings with several photographs of iconic or personal places from the backroads and counties I live in and around. I have transferred them onto prepared metal plates with DASS art transfer film and then worked into them with ink, pen, pencil, etc. I then sewed them to the boards they are on with waxed thread I hand dyed. The boards are treated with multiple layers of wax and paint, cheesecloth, and ink to create the surface.
